New Year’s Eve

John with sparkler on New Years Eve 2012

New Year’s Eve is not one of my favorite holidays. It only marks a transition in a calendar date. I did take the opportunity to fire off some fireworks to correspond to the festivities in Germany. This was our tradition when John and Angelika Weber lived in town. Angelika was born in Germany and we celebrated German New Years at 6:00 PM on December 31st. We had a nice meal and a sensible bedtime.

Through the years

I was surprised how many photos I had taken on New Years Eve. They date back to 2005 up to 2022, the last year we celebrated German New Years with the Weber family. Many of those celebrations involved burning a sugar cone over a mulled cider mix, a German tradition named Feuerzangenbowle. One year it was seafood fondue and we even had paella. It was quite the international celebration. The few landscape photos were taken during the Covid shutdown when we were avoiding people. Those photos were taken at Tophet swamp here in New Ipswich.

Daily Picture Theme –

I follow a daily picture challenge on the social media site Spoutible. Everyday there is a different subject announced as a Daily Picture Theme. I select an appropriate  photo from my collection to share. I missed a few themes, but I’m getting back on schedule. The theme for New Years Eve is HUMOR. Seems appropriate for what has been a rather somber year. Here are my picks.

Happy 2024

We need a kinder year in 2024. Work for that.
