It is Throwback Thursday. On this date in 2013 I was a patient at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. I was getting used to having a lot more energy with the assistance of a brand new Medtronic pacemaker.
Battery Powered
This unit served me well, but eventually the battery was running low. Unlike a mobile phone it has no recharging port. I received a new “improved” unit on 28 December 2022. That unit has Bluetooth and can communicate with my smartphone. However i have yet to figure out how to play music.
When I got the new pacer I asked to keep the old one as a talisman. Perhaps I should wear it as a medallion.
Having these life saving technologies is a great gift. This was the first of several important medical interventions. I think I need to celebrate all of them and keep on ticking.
Compliance
Now a bit of housekeeping for this website. I thought it would be easy to run this website. Share some photos and write a bit about them. However there is a lot of underlying technology and legal requirements for publishing. Mostly around the use of “cookies”. I’ve added a plugin in an attempt to bring this website into compliance with legal standard in Europe and California. So you now can expect to get asked if you will accept the cookies. Who doesn’t like cookies? I don’t pretend to understand this, I only want to share photos of my pacemaker and skeleton. But hopefully this will keep me compliant.
Daily Picture Theme – Cruise
The Daily Picture Theme for today is Cruise. In 1970 I was lucky enough to take a cruise to the South China Sea. I was even paid (poorly) to go. Here is a photo of our cruise ship docked in Hong Kong Harbor.
I never realized how many planes are on that carrier!
Normally they are on the hangar deck. I’m guessing this was a display of bravado. I was just happy to get off the boat and explore Kowloon and Hong Kong.
Hey John,
2 things.
1st. As for music on your device, try Jerry and the Pacemakers.! 🤣
2nd. If I have to accept cookies, I’ll take ginger snaps please.
