My Cluttered Life

Fallen pine branch

Storm Damage (Dec 19, 2023)

It has been a month since a pine tree crashed in my back yard and grazed the garage. I’ve been looking at the other pine sentinels of doom that might kill me as I sleep. They have to go. I’ve spoken with a logger about removing the pine trees that pose the damage to the house and garage. He suggested a strategy for taking them down and a staging area. There is one small problem and it one of my own making. The staging area is full of my stuff.

My Cluttered Yard

My Mom was a minimalist. She liked things uncluttered and tidy. My Dad kept everything. When he ran out of room in the cellar and garage he squirreled items in the woods. Guess who I take after? I have a cellar, garage and five acres of woods. For some insane reason I saved all the windows from the house when I had them replaced. I planned on building cold frames. I saved plastic pots. fiberglass bins, old fuel containers and lots of metal spool holders salvaged from the Tricnit Mills fire. All these items are located in the staging area for the logging operation. All these items will need to moved. It is a daunting task. It took a long time to get to the this place. I’ve lived on this property since 1975. I have decades of stuff.

Starting Today

I put on my boots and moved all of the metal spool racks out of harms way. These were the items I found at the town dump after the Tricnit fire. At that time we had a real dump located on Page Hill Road. I had a truck at the time and was able carry quite of bit of loot. One time I took my Dad with me when my parents were visiting from Connecticut. He picked up a good amount of sail cloth that he took back home. Presumably that ended up in his back yard. Those were the days.

I was wearing my fitness watch while I was moving this stuff and logged some impressive hill climbing and some aerobic activity. Clutter is good for your health. I would like to rid myself of the plastic pots though. I had collected those over the years for the Garden Shop at the Children’s Fair but have way too many. If you need any, leave a comment.

  2. Yes – Pop’s influence lives on. We have a giant barn – problem – place to put stuff! I was putting similar things behind the barn but about 5 years ago hired “Got Junk?” to haul away all those potential project items I will never get to. And I don’t miss them at all! Still need to tackle some inside stuff though. Most of the time I feel like an ant – busily moving stuff around!
