On This Day – Winter Solstice

Waterloom Pond on Summer Solstice

December 21, 2023 (Thursday)

On this day, darkness overcomes light. There were only 9 hours of sunlight. The good news is that tomorrow we turn the page. I will celebrate by watering my houseplants and think of Spring. My Camellia has flower buds (as well as Christmas lights). It should bloom for Christmas.

Winter Solstice 2019

Because today is also I’ve chosen a photo taken on a summer solstice in 2018, the longest day of the year. It is the featured photo for this post and was taken at Waterloom Pond with an infrared converted camera.

Bluebirds

Such a treat to see the bluebirds hang around the bird bath to have a drink.

Happy Birthday to all the babies born on the Winter Solstice.

Daily Picture Theme –

I participate in a daily picture challenge on the social media site Spoutible. Everyday there is a different subject announced as a Daily Picture Theme. I select an appropriate  photo from my collection to share. The theme today is #Restless. Nigel is probably the most restless dog I know, He seems hyper-aware of any movement or signs of attention. Perhaps it is due to his size. Being the smallest dog among larger animals has led to some victimization. He is always on the lookout.

  1. John, this is an incredibly positive post today. Thank you
Everything The pictures of the bluebird, Nigel, the pond and trees, the great smile on the Harley Davidson guy, your thoughts on the solstice

    You brought joy to me

    1. Thank you Anonymous (I know you are really MaryAnne), Have a Merry Christmas. The Harley Davidson guy is my neighbor and he is a cheerful fellow. Nigel is my niece’s dog and bit too neurotic for my tastes. I am more of a cat person.
