On This Day – February 26th

Two Bluebirds

It is another cold Sunday morning in February. It is doubtful that I’ll be venturing out to take photographs. I’ve reviewed some pictures taken over several years on the 26th day in the month of February.

I use a snowblower to clear my driveway, but there are some conditions that it just can’t handle. On this day, the snow was wet and sticky. It just packed the blades which spun around uselessly. It was then that I paid to have it done.

Feb 26, 2021 – Birdhouses

In the winter of 2020-2021 I built some bluebird and wren nesting houses. On this day I mounted them outside and took these photos. The bluebird houses were occupied, and the wren house provided shelter for a pair of bluebirds on a cold day (see the featured photo)

February 26, 2021 – Oral History Project

The New Ipswich Historical Society has been interviewing older residents about their experiences living in this town. The Covid pandemic has made it a bit more difficult. In this photos members Carl Toko and Craig Smeeth interview long time residents Ray and Earl Somero.

February 26, 2019 – Macrophotography

On this day I decided to take some closeup photos. I started with my cat Paris. She agreed to be still for a series of stacked photos.

When I see a circuit board I’m reminded of arial shots of cities.

We have a fifth season in New Hampshire. It is called Mud Season and it arrives in late February. You know it has arrived when the Frost Heaves and Mud signs are posted.

You never know what to expect for signage in the town of New Ipswich.

February 14, 2014 – The grim reaper

This is one sight I didn’t expect to see as we passed the Smithville Cemetery.

My final photo for this day features our cat Pickles, a true Ninja warrior. He was a small cat but very tough. He arrived as a stray and lived more or less as a domesticated cat. He was friendly but preferred to be in the wild. Weather was no obstacle. Our other cat Buster was a bully but he knew not to mess with Pickles. I saw this cat take down and eat a rabbit. One day he came home with some scrapes that looked like he survived a hawk attack. We could not keep him in the house. One day he never returned and I’m sure he died a warriors death.

  1. Good post. 2 Feb. was a cross quarter day, Imbolc, between Solstice and Equinox when life stirs underground waiting to be ‘born’. Kind of like when the ‘seed’ begins to slowly turn into a baby.
