2021, A New Year, A New Start?

2020 Labyrinth

Goodbye 2020, Good Riddance

It has a been a dumpster fire of a year hasn’t it?  So many deaths, so much pain, such incompetence in leadership. I’m leaving this year with a sense of sadness and loss. The only good news on this last day of December is that science has developed a vaccine that will eventually end the Pandemic.

There is nothing normal about this New Years Eve. Traditionally we would spend it with friends and celebrate German New Years which occurs at 6 PM. It is a time which is convenient for folks in our age category. However this year that will not happen.

In a normal year my New Years Day tradition would be walking the Labyrinth set up on the floor of the Peterborough Town House. This year some of the more resourceful volunteers have moved it outdoors to Putnam Park. I admire their effort, but it is just not the same.

Goodbye Trump, Good Riddance

Trumpet Gifts

When I was walking along Grove Street in Peterborough this afternoon I had a visceral reaction when I saw this sign for Trumpet Art Gallery. I was triggered by seeing a variant of the word “Trump”. I have been living with a level of PTSD Trump Derangement Syndrome for the last four years. I haven’t made it part of this blog because I chose to keep my writing free of Politics. But on this last day of the year, I’ll confess that I look forward to a new competent team in our Government. Especially in a time of a Pandemic.

A Disclaimer:

I can almost guarantee that the owners of Trumpet Gallery share none of the “values” of Donald J. Trump.  They have works in the their collection which would be anathema to our “Racist in Chief”.

January 6th 2021

Attempted treason and sedition on January 6, 2021. When that fails, as I pray it will, it will be a Happy New Year.

New Years Dinner – Haluski

Haluski

There are only two of us for New Years dinner. I decided to prepare a healthy dinner. I chose a variant of a Polish meal called Haluski. It  consists of Cabbage, Noodles and Kielbasa. The recipe calls for a quarter cup of butter. This ensures that an additional cholesterol load will be added to damaging effect of the kielbasa. I doubled up on the garlic to ensure that I would survive the night. It was delicious.
