Peterborough Labyrinth

Peterborough Labyrinth

On the last day of the year volunteers gather at the Peterborough Town Hall with rolls of black vinyl tape, knee pad and templates to create a full size reproduction of the Labyrinth of Chartres Cathedral.

The labyrinth at Chartres was completed in the year 1200. Although the basic design predated its construction, new elements were added such as the toothed circumference and 6 lobed design in the center. It was also large enough to walk.

2019 marks the 19th year for the Peterborough Labyrinth which was completed in less than three hours. At the end the workers gathered in a circle and shared some clementine tangerines.

  1. I guess I don’t have to ask you if you went today. We were there I guess about 2. It’s amazing the precision with which these folks put together the labyrinth. Good pix, too.
