Remembering Bill Tobin

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Bill Tobin. My deepest condolences to the Tobin and Swenson Families. Bill & Faith lived in New Ipswich for many years and were the stars of the New Ipswich Children’s Fair Auction. Bill was the auctioneer and Faith would often bid on items to raise the price. His running commentary on the goods was very entertaining. Bill served in the 1950s and was one of the Atomic Veterans exposed to ionizing radiation during the nuclear tests. I enjoyed speaking with him about some of the UFO information he had learned about in New Mexico during his service.

Bill liked to work on projects. While he was living on Water Loom pond, the Swenson family came up with an idea of having a regatta on the pond. Lenny & Lynda Swenson went with a Noah’s Ark theme, with Lenny playing Noah. Bill came up with a dragon boat that breathed fire with a propane torch.

His most ambitious project was the creation of the New Hampshire State Seal float which was featured at several parades, and also at the New Ipswich Children’s Fair.
