My Uncle Francis J. Poltrack USMC was killed on September 17, 1944 in the Battle of Peleliu. He wrote this letter four days before his death.

Thanksgiving 2021
I’m thankful that the family was able to gather together for a shared Thanksgiving supper just as we had done before COVID arrived. I’m thankful for science and vaccinations.
2021, A New Year, A New Start?
I can’t bring myself to say “Happy New Year”. My only hope is that it will be better Sadly I believe that happiness is in short supply.

Memorial Day ceremonies have been canceled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. However we were able to place flags on the graves of Veterans while maintaining social distancing.
