A New Normal for Winter
This has not been a typical New Hampshire winter. We’ve had temperature above freezing for the last couple of days. There is a bit of snow on the ground but not enough to prevent me from tackling my yard clutter project. As I have previously posted, I need to clear out a staging area for some tree removal.
Signs of Spring
I had to wear boots today because the ground is only slightly frozen. As a I trudged along I noticed that the primrose plants had fresh green leaves. Also my hellebores had healthy leaves with no sign of frost damage. If this weather pattern continues I’ll have early flowers.
Todays Clutter Report
Today I dismantled most of the compost bins that I created from the metal spool racks. It was tedious task because they had been on the ground so long that roots had grown through the openings. Also they were slightly frozen into the ground so I dug them out with a pry bar. These were in the impact zone for the logging so it was a high priority.
Free Stuff
Software distribution CDs
I never bothered throwing out old software distribution CDs from work. I figured that they would be good for a project. The project never materialized. I did hang them on a shrub and they would catch the sun and throw patterns on the ground. However the plastic became brittle and they only lasted a few years. Also I learned that the reflections spooked a horseback rider. I still have two pails of these if anyone wants them for a project.
Half barrels
I have a collection of half barrels that I used to use to drag firewood over the snow. The kids also used them a few times for sledding. They were made by cutting a large 55 gallon plastic barrel lengthwise. Free!
Seedling trays and plastic pots
I have more plastic pots and trays than any human would ever need. I’ve collected them for decades for use at the garden shop at the Children’s Fair. Free to a good home.
Happy Birthday
Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) was born on 27 January 1832. Since it his birthday and snow is predicted for Sunday into Monday, I’ll close this post with one of his poems.
