Tuesday – Tai Chi, Yoga and Plumbing
There was a dusting of snow this morning with 30 chilly degrees. The bird bath was frozen solid and I noticed a disappointed bird looking for a drink.

Staying Flexible
Tuesday and Thursdays are my days for Tai Chi AND Yoga. There is a lot of flexing and stretching. It came in handy today because I have plumbing issues. I wondered why I was standing in a puddle of water by the sink until I opened the cabinet door. The threaded coupling from the drain had completely rotted away. 32 years of use have taken its toll. Removal was not easy. I found myself laying on my back with safety glasses and a channel wrench trying to loosen 32 years of crud. I was flexible enough but I felt really dizzy.
Choring Around – Removal process
I watched several YouTube videos and all of them gave suggestions for removing the retaining nut which had welded itself to the housing. I tried some vinegar (for the minerals) and heat from a propane torch but eventually just cut through the nut with a metal cutting blade.
I found replacement drains at the Hardware stores but they are the design that the YouTube people scorn. These are the items you see in blister packs on a pegboard. I need to go to a real plumbing store and get something that comes in a cardboard box and won’t leak or rust out after a year. I never want to do this again. Actually I need to buy two of these things. This is a double sink and although the other drain intact, it looks rather sketchy.
Three Years Ago – November 14, 2020
Three years ago on this date my sink was intact and it was a lot warmer. We drove to Rye, NH to have lunch with my son and a chance to look at the ocean.
Been there, done that. Nice photos of the ocean.
