Cape Escape 2023 – Infrared

Footbridge photographed with 830nm filter
Coast Guard Beach

When I purchased my latest camera, I sent the old one away to be fitted with a 830nm infrared filter. After conversion the camera is only able to photograph black and white images. It is limiting but some of the effects are striking. The blue sky is rendered almost black which highlights cloud formations. Foliage is highly reflective of infrared so it appears white.

Rail Trail

I took some photos of the bridge that spans the salt marsh at Coast Guard beach. I knew the beach grass would be in sharp contrast to the water.

Clouds

Clouds always stand out in sharp relief with infrared photography. This is a photo from the upper parking area.
