Eagle Rock, Rye NH

Rocks

The Granite State

We have a thing about rocks that look like people and animals. Perhaps that is because there is no escaping the rocks in New Hampshire. Dig a garden and you will know exactly what I mean. The Old Man of the Mountain rock visage is everywhere, it is on our license plates and our state quarter. Ironically the actual rock face fell off on May 3, 2003.

Frog Rock

My sister and I made a special pilgrimage to see the Frog Rock in New Boston, NH. It was definitely worth the hike. It does look like a bullfrog, but only if viewed from a particular angle.

The Eagle Rock

I had a nice lunch with my wife and son in Rye, NH. Afterwards we pulled in parking area so I could take photos of sea birds and the ocean. A couple was seated nearby and asked if I was there to see the “Eagle Rock”. They pointed in a direction of the rocky coast and I saw nothing. They explained that someone else had driven up from another state just to see the “Eagle Rock”. I didn’t see an eagle, I saw this.

It took some time, but then it made sense. Now I cannot unsee it. How about you? Here is a cropped version. A squatty eagle with his eyes closed, snoozing in the October sunshine.
