My Sunglasses Bite the Dust (Literally)

Sunglasses

Do the Pat Down

I have the tendency to misplace common items like house keys, my wallet, mobile phone and my sunglasses.

My son told me to do a “pat down” before I leave the house to make sure that I have everything I need to survive outside of the house. I have a checklist posted on the door to the garage after an incident where I went grocery shopping without a wallet.  All the necessary items are stored in a basket next to the door to the garage. This system works for me 99% of the time.

“The Future’s so Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades”

The future is so bright that we need to wear shades

Sunglasses present a special challenge for me. When enter the cellar or garage after being outside I instinctively remove my sunglasses to adjust to the darkness. I put them down on whatever is nearby. Sometimes I get distracted and forget where I put them.

In one instance I made the mistake of placing them on my wife’s car in that convenient slot near the windshield wipers. This was supposed to be a temporary location but I promptly forgot about it.

A few days later I wandering around looking for the glasses. The amnesia was complete, The glasses had settled into the slot and were quite well hidden. I grabbed one of the many substandard pairs that I had found at the Green Center.

That Which Was Lost, Becomes Found

That which was lost becomes found at 60 miles an hour.

It was 10:28 on July 15, 2022. We were driving on Route 3 heading to Burlington, MA to have lunch with my daughter. My wife was driving and made the comment “What is that?”. She thought it was a snake on the windshield (She is a big fan of Sci-Fi movies with snakes). I glanced over in horror to see my beloved sunglasses on the OUTSIDE of the windshield as we barreled down the highway at 65 miles an hour.

We weren’t too far from our destination. It had held on for forty minutes since we left home. I was transfixed observing how it remained in place after moving up in view. I started to think that it might just make it until we could park. Ten minutes passed. I was elated…. but then it was gone.

Deja Vu

Mowed Over Sunglasses
Mower vs. Sunglasses

Sadly this wasn’t my first mishap with sunglasses. In June of 2018, I was mowing the lawn in a heavily shaded area and decided to remove my sunglasses. For some inexplicable reason I decided to put them on the ground. Eventually I found them again although technically it was the mower that found them.

Bigger and Brighter

Never too old to be hip

These are insanely bright and big. I should be about to find these  wherever they may end up. Wish me luck.
