November Bluebirds

Bluebirds

Brrrr, it is getting colder here in New Ipswich. I thought the bluebirds  would migrate south, but apparently they want to hang around. Since they are here, I’ve been putting out some dried mealworms for them. Unfortunately these are also a favorite of starlings.

I read that the bluebirds might use their houses as protection from the cold so I cleaned out the old nests. That was a good idea because the nesting material filled the entire space.

One of my Carolina Wren houses was taken over by a pair of bluebirds as a roosting area with view. It has a southern exposure and plenty of room for two.
