A Year Unlike Any Other
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Author: J. R. R. Tolkien
My cousin creates original hand-drawn Christmas Cards. She certainly captured the spirit of 2020 with this graphic. What a sad time for all of us. So much suffering, so much loss. Christmas was certainly different. My children visited and we exchanged gifts in the driveway. Everyone wore masks. I tried to add a bit of ambience by piping in Christmas tunes into the garage. I made a video to share with all the missing relatives that were absent. Absence was the theme of 2020. We missed birthday parties and summer vacation. I missed playing music with friends. We had a 18 pound turkey for two people. I have a freezer of leftover turkey meat and a lot of soup recipes.
Solace in Nature
Socialization was out for 2020, so I spent more time in the garden. I have a steady stream of birds at the feeders which give me great joy and many photo opportunities. I am so blessed to live in a rural area.
2021 Will Be Better
I truly believe 2021 will be better. There is a vaccine for the Coronavirus, there is real leadership coming to our nation. However first we’ll need to endure the spikes of illness and death from the gatherings at Christmas and New Years. I’ll miss walking the Labyrinth on the first day of 2021. I’ll miss the New Year’s Day jam with my friends. However by the Summer I expect to be on the beach at Cape Cod and NEXT Christmas we’ll all be together if the fates allow.
