I woke up this April morning to see a light blanket of snow over the daffodils. April snow is not an uncommon occurrence in New Hampshire. This is true of May also.
I’ve discovered that my self isolation in the midst of the Pandemic has made me more appreciative of the natural world around me. The snow was light and caused no damage to the plants
The Indoor Garden
Spring arrives indoors as well as outdoors. In late March through April I start to see signs of new growth on the indoor houseplants. I moved my rosemary plants outside during the day and they responded with darker green foliage and flowers.
I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my orchids blossom. These are challenging plants for me and they rarely flower. It was a welcome sight.
Physical Distancing
We have been doing a good job with our physical distancing. I prefer that term over the more common used “social distancing”. I find that I’m doing a lot more socializing with friends and family on the phone, email, zoom and facebook. We do venture out for grocery shopping wearing masks and keeping our distance from the other shoppers.
Meanwhile at home the bears coming out of hibernation didn’t get the memo about keeping their distance. One decided to visit my bird feeder. I should have known better.
Did it snow strongly?
It was a powerful storm. Many people are saying that they have never seen such a snow in April.
