These are the times that will define who we are as a people. I am looking for leaders and heroes. Everyday I have been watching the news briefings given by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. They follow a set pattern. He gives realistic statistics about the spread of the Coronavirus disease. He explains the need for beds, ventilators, personal protection items and personnel. It is a realistic and grim presentation. He is blunt and doesn’t sugarcoat a dire situation. He provides plenty of statistics. New York is currently the epicenter of the US pandemic.
After the scary stuff, he speaks of New York resilience, praising his team, the volunteers and citizens. He has personalized his role as Governor. “Maltida’s Law” named for his mother was his executive order to pause activities in the state. It was enacted to protect the most vulnerable citizens.
He finished the Wednesday briefing with a quote from his father Governor Mario Cuomo which I’ve included below.
