What can be better than chili, chowder and bargains on a rainy afternoon? Chris Bergeron was a driving force for a joint fund raiser for the Children’s Fair and the American Legion.
Chili & Chowder
You cannot have a contest without trophies and a cash prize. In addition you also need sufficient power for all the crock pots. Something to consider for next year.
I tried 10 different types of chili and chowder, everything from fish, corn and clam chowder to venison chili. Most contestants provided corn bread, shredded cheese, sour cream and sliced scallions. It was all delicious. It was impossible to vote for a “best” chili. I needed something to reset the palate between samples. At any rate I took the opportunity to take photos of some of the contestants with their creations. I don’t know who won, but I know what they had for supper… leftovers.
White Elephant / Rummage Sale & Flea Market
Sometimes you need to haggle get the best price. Someone missed a great deal on an unopened vinyl copy of In-A-Gadda_Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly. Seventeen minutes of a drum solo.
This looks something I would expect to see at the Green Center.
If you wait till the afternoon, you can fill a bag of clothes for a buck. That is a bargain.
In addition to the chili, chowder, rummage, white elephant items, there were crafts, tickets for the fairy festival, 50/50 chances and much more. Great event.
