Most of the wartime correspondence written by my relatives was sent on regular stationery. However this particular one was sent by V-mail (Victory Mail). My Uncle Ed sent it to his Sweetheart (his future bride) from “somewhere in Australia” which is vague enough to keep the censors happy. This graphic explains how V-mail works.

[ PASSED BY ARMY EXAMINER] 19 AUG 43 Hi Babe, “Somewhere else in Australia” and a crummier place than the last. But such are the misfortunes of war. Seriously, although each change of station results in more and more conveniences being taken away from us, as yet we have no cause for complaint. Are you writing me regularly? It’s going to take some time for the latest letters to follow me around so when they do catch up I’ll be expecting a big bunch. The best I can offer in return is a big bunch of love & kisses. I’m crying those old blues about having little to write about and how much letters mean to me. Ed
