The Cold

My youngest sister died of Cancer in January of 2021. My sister and I made plans to travel to Houston to settle her affairs, the house, car, and her personal belongings.  We’ve scheduled our trip until after we receive our second dose of vaccine. Neither of us thought it was a good idea to travel without that level of protection. It was going to be a sad but manageable chore.

However it got a lot more complicated when Texas experienced an extended period of subfreezing temperatures. The cold combined with multiple power outages caused the water pipes to freeze and burst. The ceiling collapsed and flooded the flooring.

If this was a singular event, we could remotely arrange for a remediation service and plumber. However the entire state has been designated as a federal disaster.  Queries for help were answered with “we are at capacity and not taking jobs”.

Community Help

Church groups and volunteers have come to the aid of the people impacted by the storm. Since we are dealing with this remotely from New Hampshire, we were overwhelmed with gratitude when a Men’s group from Kingsland  Baptist Church removed the wet carpeting and vacuumed up the water.
