Betty Poltrack, New Boston’s Most Senior Citizen

Parade Sign

When the town of New Boston, NH cancelled their Fourth of July parade and celebration, my mom was disappointed. She enjoyed the parade, the firing of the Molly Stark Cannon and the chicken BBQ.  She compensated a bit by ordering supermarket chicken with some deli coleslaw and macaroni salad, but it wasn’t quite the same.

The New Boston parade is quite an affair for a small town. They have floats, tractors, fire engines, clowns, horses and the Molly Stark cannon which is fired at noon at the Fairgrounds.

The parade also features a convertible carrying the youngest and oldest town resident. It just so happens that my mom is now the oldest town resident. My sister and her friends came up with an idea to have a mini-parade for the newest most senior resident.

Mom had a chance to practice her “queen wave” to the crowd. However it is important to note that she is a five years older than Queen Elizabeth.

Thank You New Boston!

This was probably the hottest day of the year and it was so gratifying to see all the people braving the heat in masks to honor my Mom. Thanks to the fire department for bringing out the engines with flashing lights. She was thrilled. We finished the celebration with lunch at the Northeast Cafe.
