Less daylight and cooler evenings

High School Reunion

I graduated from High School in 1964. It was rather uneventful for me when juxtaposed against the rest of my life. Four years later I would be getting my draft notice. That was the eventful time.

Nevertheless it was nice to get a call from Jerry Rosenberg asking me to come. He had some bio on me. I was interested in science (still am) and a member of the chemistry club. That explains why I made my own fireworks. We talked of our health and who had died which is what people in their seventies talk about. I kept thinking of the lyrics of the John Prine tune “Hello in There”.

The Reunion is planned for the afternoon since no one can drive at night anymore. I appreciate the call but don’t intend to drive to Conneticut for the reunion. I do have a few interactions with school chums via Facebook, and my daily postings of Wordle scores is a good indication that I am still alive and not in cognitive decline.

I looked for Jerry Rosenberg on Facebook and found an address in Vietnam, yet the call came from Connecticut. How curious is that?

Far-Outers Meeting

The Far-Outers met in Paul’s wood shop for a nice lunch and conversation. Once again we solved most of the world’s problems including some they don’t even know about. Thank you Paul for the Pale Ale, went great with my tunafish sandwich.

Website fail

This week I spent an ENTIRE DAY trying to fix my website. I was unable to edit an older post and after deactivating some plugins, I broke my birthday photo albums. Eventually I was able to keep it from crashing but the birthday albums need to be rebuilt from scratch. While I was poking around I decided to remove Adsense advertising (thank me). It was annoying and only brought in a few cents a day.. I also removed some metric plugins. I don’t really need to know how many people don’t read my website.

Senior Breakfast in Temple, NH

The fourth Friday of the Month and Peggy invites the Seniors for breakfast. Alway good food and conversation.

Look what I saw at the Green Center

There was quite a collection of international items at the Green Center donated by someone who had traveled extensively. There were a number of photos that I intend to share with my readers once I can learn a bit more about the photographer.

Chordify

I’ve been having some fun playing guitar using the app Chordify. It is a clever piece of software that analyzes YouTube music videos and produces a running display of the chord changes. I cannot read music and rely on song sheets with chord notations. The problem with these is that the chord changes are usually in the wrong location. I can usually “hear” where the change is supposed to occur but it is nice to get a visual cue, especially on instrumental tunes.

I was using the free version but decided to pay $12 for a deeply discounted “pro” version that has more bells and whistles. I’m including an embedded version of the Merle Haggard tune “Swinging Doors” to demonstrate how it works. However sometimes embeds are blocked by Ad-Blockers so you many not see anything. Click here to go directly to their website.

Did you enjoy the tune (if you could see it)? “Swinging Doors” brings back memories of my time stationed at the Naval Air Station in Imperial Beach.

Ernie Skeen
Ernie Skeen at the Ye Olde Plank Inn in Imperial Beach California

Ernie Skeen was a NCO in my outfit who used perform at the Ye Olde Plank Inn in Imperial Beach. He had the perfect voice for Merle Haggard songs and this was the perfect venue for the song “Swinging Doors”. The first line is “This old smoke-filled bar is something I’m no used to”. When he sang that, you could hear someone at the pool table yell out “You Liar!”.

Can we talk?

I have removed AdSense advertising from my site. The ads were annoying and cluttered up the page. Also it only netted me a few pennies at day. However I have retained my affiliate sponsors and donations are always welcome. It does cost money to run this website. Thank you for your support.
