When things go wrong

A new refrigerator was delivered today. Nothing special, no internet, no ice maker, no video screen. I was replacing a Whirlpool unit that was 29 year old. It still works but the seal is shot on the door and I have a feeling it is at end of life. I dutifully removed all the mold covered science experiments and liquified cucumbers in bags and mopped up the wine that had leaked from a box of Woodbridge Chardonnay. I spent time dissecting the valve to see why it had failed. My verdict is bad quality control.

The refrigerator came. Two strong guys with a strap carried out the old unit and brought in the new one. Once again I regret not having 36 inch wide doors, but they did it. Then the fun began. I needed the door switched to open from the right. The bottom hinge mount screw holes were obscured by a misaligned exterior sheathing. They tried to fix it to no avail. Once again a quality control issue, It was obvious what was wrong. They carried out the new unit, put it on the truck and brought back the old one. All that labor, transportation, incovenience because someone on the line didn’t pay attention. The only useful thing that was accomplished was a purge of some expired food.

Ancestry

I spend an inordinate amount of time studying the life stories of other people for the New Ipswich Historical Society. When I saw an advertisement for a DNA test from Ancestry as a Father’s Day Sale, I decided to give it a try. I had uploaded a family tree years ago but didn’t to pay the yearly fee. The tree is still online and everyone is still alive. I see that there is a lot of update work I need to do. I’m not too concerned about sharing my DNA, the VA already has my sequence for a health tracking program. This just might be the year for me to “Know Thyself”.

Twelve Years Ago – June 12, 2012 (Tuesday)

Twelve years ago we visited Ginny’s family on Vancouver Island. We took the route from Port Angeles to Victoria on two ferry rides. The ferries weren’t running their full summer schedule that early in the year so we had to wait a few hours. I walked around taking photos of the street art and other things of interest (to me).
