This is the daily journal entry for the 11th day of June in 2024. The Daily Picture Theme is #Wind. Featured photo was taken on top of Mount Watatic of Ruby the terrier being blasted by the wind.

“Our pasts define us, yet memory is untrustworthy. By keeping a journal, I can capture those memories when they’re still reasonably fresh. Journaling helps me keep a narrative of my life. It keeps me honest with myself.”

— John Dumas

Manga

Yesterday’s winning word for Wordle was MANGA . I managed to get it by guessing the letter between “N” and “A”. When my guess of PANDA didn’t work out I chose one that seemed to fit. I know of ANIME but MANGA came as a complete suprise. I’ve provided a New York Times gift link which explains everything you need to know about MANGA art. Today’s Wordle was a piece of cake, solved in 3 steps and my current streak is 51. I solved CONNECTIONS today but the solution for the blue category sent me directly to the internet. I learn quite a bit of popular culture from that puzzle and the mini-crossword.

Blue skies to clouds

It was sunny and cool for Tai Chi. Once again on a field of clover blossoms (san bees). Today we oriented ourselves so we could watch our shadows and ensure that we fully stack our shoulders when we “divide heaven and earth” in Qi Gong. Later the clouds rolled in, shadows are gone.

Flowers for Maggie

I publish a substack newsletter for the New Ipswich Historical Society. One section is devoted to diary entries from James Roger that were written in 1913. His diary was one of the contributing factors that inspired me to start this online journal. For the last couple of weeks he has been writing about his wife’s health who he refers to as Mother in his writings. It was obvious that she was in decline, all the doctor could do was administer hypodermic injections to ease her pain. She died on June 10, 1913. I’ve been publishing his diary for at least two years and this news affected me. I was not alone. Carl Toko informed me that some New Ipswich residents had placed flowers on her grave. What a wonderful tribute. This is his diary entry on that day.

Fair and warm. Dear mother passed away at 4:30 p.m. her. Her end was peace, no pain nor struggle, just one long-drawn breath and then she entered on the lovely walk through the valley of the shadow of death but the Lord her shepherd walked with her so she could fear no evil.

David and Walter Hardy cut the lots in the cemetery. Hamish went for grain. David went for Farrar.

A sad birthday for poor Alice, who has been a faithful and devoted nurse. Hamish telephoned Berkeley and Jessie and sent telegrams to Oakdale, Bayshore, and Millerton.

Cast me not off in mine old age and now when I am old and gray-headed forsake me not.

Celebration of Life

June 11th 2024 would have been Craig Dudley’s 75 Birthday. Sadly this was not to be. His friends and co-workers gathered at his home adorned in Hawaiian shirts to celebrate his life. It was wonderful to reminsce with folks about the early days.

Seven Years Ago – June 11, 2017 (Sunday)

“Laws, like sausages, cease to inspire respect in proportion as we know how they are made;”

- Mr. John Godfrey Saxe

Seven years ago I took some photos as John and Angelika Weber made some sausage with the help of Maciej Lecki. Watching the pig head steaming in the pot made me think a bit about vegetarianism. However sausage tastes so good. Here are some photos if you dare,

    1. Daily pictures will probably end in 8120 days on my 100th birthday. However unforseen calamities will probably befall me before then. I realize it might be too much mail so I’ll remove you from the subscriber list (You can always come back), Thank your for your patronage.
