This is the daily journal entry for the 3rd day of June in 2024. The Daily Picture Theme is #Create. The featured photo was taken in September 2007 as Tibetan monks created a sand mandala on the floor of the Mariposa Museum in Peterbrorough, NH. A week later they destroyed it. All things are temporary, that was the lesson.

I’ve been thinking about the timing of starting a daily journal so late in life. When I am going through the archives for the “On This Date” section I realize that I have forgotten a lot of people, events and locations. The only photos I can accurately date are the ones taken with a digital camera. That covers a span of only 20 years. Those photos do trigger memories. What about the high school days, college, Navy service? It would have been nice to jot down a sentence or two and see what was important back then. When I was able to see some of the letters I wrote to my parents when I was in the Navy, I was taken with how intense I was about things. I think of the Bob Dylan lyrics “But I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now”. I am a lot younger now.

Today was another picture perfect New Hampshire day. For some reason the black flies were not an issue this year. It was warm, too warm to mow the lawn I didn’t mow in May (I was part of the No-Mow May movement). My “lawn” is technically a meadow with saplings and bittersweet popping up, When I received an invite to take a dip in my friends pool I made the decision that the lawn could wait a bit longer. The solar cover for the pool raised the temperature to a very comfortable 92 degrees (F). I had a very nice conversation with Kim and Carl about Ireland while enjoying a Guiness. It doesn’t get much better than that.
