November 27, 2023 (Monday)
It was a cold and wet 34 degrees F this morning, but the sun came out and it warm enough for a walk. I placed some of the turkey carcass on a tree stump for the crows and when I returned there were about seven crows hanging around and one hawk. The crows weren’t bothered by the hawk and the hawk wasn’t bothered by the crows. Unfortunately they got spooked when I closed the garage door so I have no group photos.
Bluebird’s Favorite
The bluebirds are back and I’m ready for them. I got my ten pound bag of dried mealworms ready to go. This is expensive but the bluebirds love it. I also put out a feeder with safflower seeds. This seed is less attractive to squirrels.
Chocolate Bomb
I purchased a “Chocolate Bomb” at the Small Business Saturday event at our local library. I was anxious to see what it was. I placed this chocolate orb in a mug and added hot milk. It melts and becomes milk chocolate. It even releases a load of mini-marshmallows. Very clever and tasty.
New Shirt
I’m not a runner, I’ve never been a runner. However my daughter just completed a half marathon in Boston and I got the shirt. I love the thumb holes.
Susan Carr – Christmas Apparel
I’ll never forego the opportunity to share a goofy photo of my sister. She sent me this one which I will gladly share on a global platform.
Comment Fields
My cousin mentioned that she was growing tired of entering her name and email to leave a comment. I noticed that those fields were set at required. I have reset them to be optional.
Monetization
I was inspired to start a daily journal from my work with the New Ipswich Historical Society. Most of my daily postings contain a diary entry from James Roger. He writes of the weather, his chores which he describes as “choring around”, town events and correspondence with his family. The diary entries I’m posting now were written in November 1912.
James Roger wrote his diary in a series of booklets. I often wonder what he might think if he knew his words could be read by 400 subscribers. A lot of people are interested in what was going on in New Ipswich. They still are as can be seen by the number of New Ipswich Facebook Groups.
Unlike James, my “on this day” entries are meant to posted onliine. I’ve gotten enough positive feedback to continue doing this. I depend a lot on technology: hosting, storage and software. To offset those expenses that I have enabled advertising on this webpage. That has been underwhelming to say the least. They pay out when the threshold reaches $100. Right now the amount in the queue is $99.72. I have a good feeling that I will break through on December 1st. It has taken years to get to that $99.72.
Going forward I’m thinking of ditching the advertising completely. I have a contribution button (Buy Me a Coffee) and some affiliate links but they have been disappointing. I’ve enabled a subscription model such as the Substack platform uses but the majority of my future postings will NOT be behind a paywall.
Daily Picture Theme – Car
I participate in a daily photo challenge on the social media site Spoutible. Everyday there is a different subject announced as a Daily Picture Theme. I select an appropriate  photo from my collection to share. I have been sharing these exclusively on Improves With Age, my Substack newsletter. However since I have untaken the task of writing daily entries, I decided to introduce a daily picture theme photo to this website.
My first NEW car was a 1971 Datsun B210 which I bought in the Navy and drove across the country when I was discharged,
