On This Day – March 9, 2014
Happy #ThrowbackThursday. On this day in March of 2014 I joined other members of the New Ipswich Photography group at the Butterfly Place at 120 Tyngsboro Rd, Westford, MA 01886. It is a perfect venue for photographers. Brightly colored butterflies resting on flowers under a large skylight. While I was reviewing these photos I realized how much better these photos could have been if I had some of my more recent camera equipment. I plant to return sometime this year with a new macro lens. We’ll start with the most striking butterfly in the collection, the Blue Morpho (Morpho achilles).
Blue Morpho
This bright coloration would make the Blue Morpho an easy target for predators, but by closing its wing it becomes much less conspicuous.
Swallowtails
Zebra Longwing Butterfly
Scarlet Mormon
Papilo memnon
New Arrivals
I assume this cage is the way that newly emerged butterflies are introduced into the atrium.
Chrysalis
In an attached room are rows of Chrysalis, but I didn’t see any emerging butterflies.
Parakeets?
I’m not sure why there were parakeets in the atrium but they seemed happy with their living conditions. No cages for them.
