The Daily Picture Theme

I participate in a daily photo challenge on the social media site Spoutible. Each day a different photo theme is listed and users upload a photo that best represents the theme. Sometimes it can be challenging to find a single photo for a theme but usually I have several candidates. Rather than make multiple postings I decided to create a single posting with a gallery of photos.

Bones

I’ve been fascinated with bones for most of my life. As a young teen I remember getting a large cow bone from the butcher with the idea of preserving it. My plan was to soak it in water till the flesh would come off, a disgusting strategy that just produced a horrendous stench. I was luckier in college when I was invited by a friend to his farm. Over time they had buried several cows and there was a pile of bleached ribs and vertebrae. I had plans to make a mobile from the rib bones and happily carried a box of bones back to the dorm room. This gained me the moniker “Bones”. I kept those bones for some time but eventually my mother tossed them when I went into the Navy.

As a home owner I come across dessicated mice skeletons all the time. They are great subjects for macro photography. A friend gifted me with a beautiful cow skull which she had found in her 200 year old house. She was happy to be rid of it because it gave her the creeps. I had a different reaction. I have a gallery of photos with this subject on Flickr which I have embedded below. If it is not being displayed, refresh the screen, sometimes the API is a little glitchy.
