Standby Generator

The electricians came for the final steps to setup our standby generator. It will run a test every Wednesday at 10:00. I can almost guarantee that we’ll see it in operation this winter, maybe sooner.

Choring around

I’ll never be free from clutter but I am making an effort to organize and catalog what I have. I have created a Google form which I named “Where did I put that”. It creates a spreadsheet with a description of items and their location. Hot glue sticks? I know they are in the second drawer of the antique chest in the living room.

Ten Years Ago (Photos)

What was I doing a decade ago? I didn’t keep a journal but I have some photographs. These photos were taken at Andres Institute of Art in Brookline, NH. It features trails and outdoor sculptures. The photos were taken 28 September 2014.

Royal Telephone – Lee Moore (WWVA)

I’ve been having some fun playing guitar using the app Chordify. It is a clever piece of software that analyzes YouTube music videos and produces a running display of the chord changes. I cannot read music and rely on song sheets with chord notations. The problem with these is that the chord changes are usually in the wrong location. I can usually “hear” where the change is supposed to occur but it is nice to get a visual cue, especially on instrumental tunes.

In the early sixties it was impossible to hear much country music in Connecticut. However WWVA in West Virginia was a clear channel and at night I could listen Lee Moore, your coffee drinking night-hawk. Between the advertisements he would pick up his guitar and sing “The Cat Came Back” and other tunes. He had a great voice and had some nice guitar runs, especially in this tune.

Lee Moore (born: Circleville, OH, September 24, 1914) is best remembered as The Coffee Drinking Nite-Hawk from his stint at WWVA, where he spent twenty five years.

He was also a recording artist and performer. Lee started singing on radio in 1931 while still in high school. He went on the road with Doc Schneider and His Texas Yodeling Cowboys playing dobro and guitar before joining WPAY, Portsmouth, OH. Moore then moved to WCMI Ashland KY, WCHS, Charleston, WV and WHIS, Bluefield, WV, where he performed at the coal camps at night. He then moved to WSVA, Harrisonburg, VA, KNKF, Shenandoah, IA . After a few other stops he joined WWVA (1949-1974). Where he hosted the overnight show as a disc jockey and often performed on the WWVA Jamboree. At the time, WWVA's nighttime signal was the only source of Country music for many fans in the northeast, and many New Yorkers listened to Lee.

He received mail from listeners from Newfoundland to Bermuda. He was known for his coffee drinking routine, in which he would elaborately describe the preparation of his favorite beverage, as well as for commercials selling red top baby chicks, the Lord's Last Supper tablecloths and used work clothes. After leaving WWVA, Moore continued to play bluegrass festivals throughout the northeast until his death on August 17, 1997. Lee Moore was inducted into the Country Music D J Hall of Fame in 2000

Can we talk?

I have removed AdSense advertising from my site. The ads were annoying and cluttered up the page. Also it only netted me a few pennies at day. However I have retained my affiliate sponsors and donations are always welcome. It does cost money to run this website. Thank you for your support.
