Birthday Week

September is my birth month and my favorite time of year. A hint of fall but still plenty of warm days. Also Cider Donuts.

Birthday

I was pleased to receive Birthday greetings on Facebook, but there were too many to answer individually. I posted a group thank-you note to everyone. It was a great day which ran quite late because I stayed up to watch the Harris-Trump debate which was worth the wait.

Standby Generator Installation

My standby generator was installed last week. It was a hot day and the crew worked really hard to dig through the roots and rocks to lay the wiring and gas line. The unit looks great but as of this writing I have not seen it in operation.

Ironically after it was wired and backfilled, there was a four hour power outage. A car had struck a pole and done some serious damage. Without the propane tanks, my generator was of no use.

Reptiles

Uromastyx lizard

Saturday was a busy day. I stopped at the library to learn about reptiles and take some photos.

Mason Hollow Nursery

My friends at Mason Hollow Nursery held an end of season sale on Sunday. I stopped by to see that they had. I was most intrigued by the autumn crocus (actually a lily) varieties that were blooming in their demonstration garden.

Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris – If This Is Goodbye

I’ve been having some fun playing guitar using the app Chordify. It is a clever piece of software that analyzes YouTube music videos and produces a running display of the chord changes. I cannot read music and rely on song sheets with chord notations. The problem with these is that the chord changes are usually in the wrong location. I can usually “hear” where the change is supposed to occur but it is nice to get a visual cue, especially on instrumental tunes.

My selection for this week is a song Mark Knopfler wrote for 9/11 based upon the phone conversations that took place as the towers burned. Beautiful poignant song performed by two of my favorite musicians.

I have removed AdSense advertising from my site. The ads were annoying and cluttered up the page. Also it only netted me a few pennies at day. However I have retained my affiliate sponsors and donations are always welcome. It does cost money to run this website. Thank you for your support.
