The Green Center of New Ipswich is primarily a recycling center for household items, clothing, books, toys and home furnishings. However it is also an art gallery. In this post I will share photos of some of the sculptures that were on display over the years,
Ugly Dog
I’ve posted this photo before and each time it is posted I receive a flurry of messages asking if it still available at the Green Center. Sadly it was adopted quite early by an unknown art collector. I now regret that I didn’t get it for myself. It is a magnificent piece. I’ve similar works offered at the Tijuana border crossing when I was stationed in Southern California.
Venus and Dave
I was lucky enough to be at the right time at the Center when I spotted not one but two masterpieces, Venus de Milo and David (Michelangelo). These are very nice reproductions of these classic works and I was lucky enough to obtain them.
Peace Out
This iconic symbol of the 1960s showed up briefly but was quickly adopted by a patron.
Santo Cristo de Limpias
Santo Cristo de Limpias – likeness of the face of Jesus as seen on a crucifix at Santuario del Cristo de la Agonia, Limpias, Spain. A patron was very excited to find this reproduction at the Green Center.
Pink Elephant
Some of the sculptures appear to be original works such as this whimsical pink elephant. This photo was taken in September 2018 and the item is no longer available.
Masks
I was working at the Center when a box of ceramic masks were donated. I don’t know if they could be designated as “sculpture” but they were quite elegant. I took them home to photograph and returned them a few weeks later to be offered for adoption. This photo was taken in January 2019, so I doubt that they are still available.
Basket or Sculpture?
I guess this would qualify as a hybrid piece. Part basket and part sculpted fish lips. Another photo from 2018. Certainly a bit of whimsy.
What’s new?
The photos were taken years ago when I was a full time volunteer. I had plenty of time to learn what we had in our collections. That is no longer the case, however I still visit and will continue to share what I see at the Green Center.
