Packing List

We’ve vacationed at Cape Cod for many years. You might think that I would have a list of items for our vacation. No such list exists. My goal for the next time is create such a list. I already have a “Pat Down” list on the door to the garage. It reminds me to check for keys, wallet, sunglasses and mobile phone. This is where I am in life.

Technology Fail

I don’t take a vacation from technology. I had my new laptop with me and had signed up for the “White Dudes for Kamala” zoom call. When I booted up the laptop it did not “recognize” my face. What was especially annoying was a cartoon “eye” looked back and forth and didn’t know who I was. It had worked during previous sessions. I took off my glasses, put on my glasses. I made faces and even showed a picture of myself on the phone. Grrrr, how annoying. It also didn’t accept the PIN number. I tried to convince myself that this was a chance to break free from technology and “be here now” but it was truly upsetting. I didn’t realize the extent of my tech addiction. My postings for the historical society were already completed and scheduled for the week but the daily picture theme postings need to be done in real time. I needed this to work.

The next day after multiple tries I was finally able to log into my Microsoft account which gave me a back door into the system. I turned off the facial recognition option and chose a simple PIN. I’m relieved but concerned that I am such an addict. my winning streak of 102 in WORDLE was never in danger because I was able to do that on the phone.

Sunrise

Nauset Beach is just a short drive from our rental property in Orleans. I was there for 4 sunrises. However the the humidity level was so high that the cold ocean had a layer of fog along the surface. It made for an interesting photo of a fishing boat that appears to be sailing in a cloud. When the sun finally broke free over the mist it bathed the beach in a reddish glow, a nice lighting effect for the photo of the Bleed Kit and Ged Deering’s memorial bench.

Herring Pond

We spent some time cooling off at Herring Pond, a small kettle pond located near my sister’s rental house. Of note was a concrete passageway that provided a path for herring to travel during spawning season. The water was delightful. My nephew brought along a rock that he found FLOATING in the Maldives, a weird pumice thing that weighed nothing but looked like granite.

I was worried I didn’t have enough to share about our week but now I’ve noticed that this post is getting a bit too lengthy and I still have to share the photos themes. More to come in future issues. Lets get on with the seven themes for the week.
