The Daily Picture Theme for July 2, 2024 is #Compact. When I worked at DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) the software was distributed on Compact Discs (CDs). Instead of discarding the old versions, I figured they might be good for some project. I hung them on a bush in the front lawn and the reflective coating would throw light patterns on the ground. However they did not do well in the weather. They got brittle and the aluminum coating flaked off. Even worse, they are not recyclable as plastic because of the metallic coating. Eventually I paid the transfer station to to take BUCKETS of them into the dumpster.

Daily Journal

“Keeping a journal has taught me that each day holds something significant, something worth recording. My journal has reminded me again and again of the richness and abundance of my daily life, no matter how mundane or predictable some days may seem.”– Kristen Webb Wright

FarOuters Meeting

It was a busy Tuesday, Tai Chi in the morning on the Temple, NH Green followed by a Yoga class at Willow Tree Studios in New Ipswich. I got home just in time to pack a lunch for our bi-monthly Farouters Meeting, An eclectic group of men with interesting stories. Rick wisely steered off the course of lamenting the latest travesty of the “Supreme” Court. Instead we spoke of wildlife and the beauty of the Monadnock Region and our good fortune to call our home.

Running out of space

I received an email from Bluehost the company that hosts this website. They informed me that I had exceeded the storage limits for the Basic hostiing, the lowest and cheapest option. They have moved me into a higher tier at greater cost.

This made me question this whole exercise of online publishing. Is it worth it? I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years, For a a time my affiliate relationship with Amazon actually paid enough to cover my publishing costs but I was banned from the program for not adhering strictly to the rules. I did not have absolute immunity then and I don’t have it now. I tried to reapply several times but I’m on the bad actor list. Anyway, I tried to pick up the slack with sponsored advertising from AdSense which provides some passive income. The problem is the amount of income.\\

Is this worth the effort?

My crisis of faith is whether this is a worthwhile use of my time and resources, or should I investigate an alternative. At the current rate of posting I’ll eventually reach a limit on storage and have to move up to an even more expensive tier, The advantage of WordPress is that the work is solely the property of the creator, I briefly wrote some articles for an online publication called EXAMINER which ceased operations in 2016, As a remember they were always hounding me for content. One positive was that someone saw some my scanned photos of my Grand Uncles motorcycle shop and sent me additional photos. However anything I wrote for them is floating in cyberspace because I wasn’t clever enough to save it. I also wasn’t clever enough to keep a journal, something I plan to do from now on.
