This is the daily journal entry for the 23rd day of June in 2024. The Daily Picture Theme is . The featured photo was taken at my sisters house in Houston Texas showing water damage caused by the freezing temperatures and power crisis in February 2021. The water pipes and water heater were located in the attic. During the freeze and power grid failure, the pipes split and leaked soaking the ceiling wallboard which eventually collapsed into the dining area. I would question the wisdom this arrangement but I live in New England where we have basements.

“Journaling has become one of the most gratifying and fulfilling practices of my life. Not only do I derive the daily benefits of consciously directing my thoughts and putting them in writing, but even more powerful are those I have gained from reviewing my journals.”

A chance for severe weather

There was a chance for severe weather today, but as of 18:44 we only have clouds in New Ipswich. There was a lot of rain last night. We drove to Rye, NH to have lunch with my son Josh and his girlfriend. We ate at Ray’s which does have good fish chowder. The coastline was blanketed with a heavy fog which was too bad since there were many cormorants resting on the rocks. They are a difficult bird to photograph because they are so dark. It is difficult to bring out the texture of their feathers. I did see some sea ducks with their ducklings and by making use of the dehaze filter of lightroom, I was able to bring out some details from the foggy conditions.

Trompe-l’œil

On this day fourteen years ago I took a photo of a mural that Matt Patterson had done for a building in Jaffrey, NH. The building is located on a very busy street and the mural can easily be overlooked unless you know what to look for. It is one of two works. Both are shown below.
