This is the daily journal entry for the 31st day of May in 2024. The daily picture theme via Spoutible is #Enter. The featured photo was taken in 2015 and was part of a protest against the Kinder-Morgan natural gas pipeline and compressor station planned for our community,
“I don’t know what I think until I write it down.”
– Joan Didion
It was a lot cooler this morning than the last couple of days. The minimum temperature for last night was 42.9 F. Last night I watched as the verdict of the Trump trial was announced. Guilty on all 34 counts, Hopefully being a convicted felon might make some people think about electing a wannabe dictator in November. Later in the morning he made a number of unhinged remarks and waved his hands around like he was playing an invisible accordion. I’m baffled why anyone would support a person like this.
Soup Day
Friday is soup pickup day at Mother Hubbard Ladle on Hubbard Road in New Ipswich. The soups are delicious and I have been stocking up with frozen quarts to have for lunch during the week. Chef Rachelle Lenardson has started to offer salads during the warmer weather. The Caesar Salad was delicious. We plan to have the mixed salad plate with burgers tomorrow, Such a treat to have this business in town.
The food is prepared in the “Soup Caboose”. I also notices that her NO MOW MAY lawn looks quite striking with a carpet of yellow flowers. Carl called them weeds, I call them flowers. Here are some photos taken today.
I read the comments
Thanks for the comment on my postings. Regina mentioned that Mary Oliver was one of her favorite poets, so I looked up some of her poems and quotations. I found this quote which encapsulates how I spent the last ten years of my working career. I can share this now because I’m retired and no longer subject to performance reviews and layoffs
"Believe me, if anybody has a job and starts at 9, there's no reason why they can't get up at 4:30 or five and write for a couple of hours, and give their employers their second-best effort of the day - which is what I did."

John and Angelika Weber Visit
This was an unexpected surprise. I received a call from John Weber. He had moved to New Mexico and the last I heard John and Angelika were traveling in Europe. They were back in New Ipswich. Angelika has been documenting her travels on the WordPress blog Cycling with Mama. They drove over with their “camper”, a converted ambulance. We had a nice chat about their exploits and adventures. They leave tomorrow for Maine as John prepares to hike the Appalachian Trail. Something he has done in segments but never in the entirety,
Dahlias and Canna
I’m finally getting the chance to get those Dahlia and Canna bulbs planted. I believe the soil is warm enough. The EGO rototiller did a grea job of making a nice soft hole to place them in. They will have to fight their way through the weeds because I can’t keep up with that. I’ll give updates as we move through the season.
