The Daily Picture Theme for 20 May 2024 is #Focus. Back in the day with analog cameras, there would be distance measurements embossed on the lens for focusing. If you were shooting with infrared film, you had to compensate a bit for focus. That is the purpose of the small red mark to the right of the focus mark.
Daily Journal – 21 May 2024 (Tuesday)
“Journaling is an offshoot of meditation— a type of introspection where a record of events is welcome. It doesn’t have to mean the record is permanent. In fact, it’s probably better as ephemeral— permanently locked behind a password. But, the fact that it exists is a comfort in itself.”
— C.J. Chilvers
Whew, summer arrived today, it was uncomfortably hot. We did Tai Chi on the Temple Green today but we were not alone. The bugs were swarming.
The Farouters met today and once again a range of topics was discussed and many problems solved. Al Jenks spoke in Zen-like terms about the proper way to sharpen a chain saw blade. The key is visualizing what a new perfect chain looks like. Then look at the chain on your saw. The one you ran against a rock or into the dirt. With skill and patience transform that chain into the idealized version. Don’t forget to lower the rakers.

Winding up our time in Orlando. We did another tourist stop at “Orchid Land” but it could never measure up to the awesomeness of Gatorland. At a nearby venue I saw an interesting ride that shoots you from a spring loaded slingshot. It looks terrifying. Note the camera mounted to capture peoples expression on the Apogee of their flight.

I had a Miranda Sensorex SLR 35 mm in those days.
My eyes are not as good as they were in those early days. I depend completely on auto focus, peaking and zooming. Another reason I’m such a fan of a mirrorless system like the OM-1.
