The Daily Picture Theme for May 19th 2024 is #Art. I have many photos for this theme but I’ve decided to share the ones taken at the Art Car Museum located in Houston, Texas. It was worth the trip and is very close to the Bat Colony under the Waugh Bridge, also worth the trip.
Daily Journal – 19 May 2024 (Sunday)
“Journals contain ten categories of life patterns: longing; fear, mastery; (intentional) silences; key influences; hidden lessons; secret gifts; challenges; unfinished business; untapped potential. Each category corresponds to a way we engage or hold back in life.”
— Alexandra Johnson
The town of New Ipswich observed Memorial Day on May 19th, a week before the official calendar date. This has been the tradition for as long as I can remember. I believe it ensures that we can schedule marchinig bands for our parades. There are morning and afternoon parades. Before the morning parade Pete and BJ Aho host a coffee and Nisu social so we can fuel up before heading out to South Cemetery. This year a float was made available and I went along for the ride, handing out flags to onlookers. After lunch the second parade forms at the Congregational Church and proceeds to Central Cemetery. This year retiring organizers of the Memorial Day observances were honored with plaques and certificates, The torch has been passed to the next generations.
After Central Cemetery there is one more stop at Soldier’s Monument on Academy Road for another invocation, decoration of crosses and rifle salute. Then on to Memorial Field for hot dogs and chips. It is a full day of activities.
On This Date
Looking back nineteen years to May 19, 2005. I was in Florida to attend a seminars on software quality control and brought Ginny with me. She got to sit by a pool while I fought to stay awake in classes. After class we decided to visit a co-worker who had moved to Florida, on the gulf side. I don’t remember his name but I remembered some stories about his dog. One time while taking clothes out of the dryer he decided to dress his dog, I remember how he was showing these snapshots at work of this big goofy dog dressed up. Needless to say this was a guy I wanted to see again. Perhaps if I kept a journal back then, I would have written down his name. When we arrived he showed me his black leather couch. His dog had chewed a huge hole in the back.
We headed out to dinner to a restaurant on the gulf coast called the Hurricane. We had planned to see a sunset on the Gulf coast. We ate dinner at the “Hurricane” restaurant on the beach. The meal started pleasantly enough, chatting about our times at Digital and antics of his dog. But it all changed for me when the waitress managed to spill an entire tray of drinks on me. It wasn’t too bad since we were eating outside and it was quite warm. However it started to rain and they insisted we move inside. We were seated under and air conditioner which would been okay if I weren’t soaked in drinks. To add insult to injury the management gave us the full bill. However overall it was good seeing the guy and I have a story to tell. I only wish I had a photos of my baptism. I do have a photo of the chewed up couch. See attached photos.
