The Daily Picture Theme for May 17th 2024 is #Attention. I chose a photo of a pesky chipmunk that climb onto the feeder and stuff his(her) cheeks with safflower seeds. I purposely chose safflower seeds because they were not supposed to attractive to mammals. I guess that myth is busted. When I took the picture the chipmunk was paying close attention to see what I might do, which was nothing. After I clicked the shutter it was back to the task at hand, emptying the feeder.
Daily Journal – 17 May 2024 (Friday)
“We’re drawn to making our mark, leaving a record to show we were here, and a journal is a great place to do it.”
— Keri Smith
It was a warm day today, lower 70s. Slightly cloudy but no rain. This morning I watched a male turkey strut around the yard showing off for the ladies. We had lunch with our daughter at the Tavern in the Square in Burlington. The Sesame Salmon bowl was very good and it seemed like the most healthy choice.
There was little time for choring around today. I did stop at Mason Brook Nursery to buy some tall Zinnias. Last year the combination of Dahlias and Zinnias put on a wonderful flower display that lasted throughout the summer. On other chore was a soup run to Mother Hubbard’s Ladle to stock up on frozen soup. Luckily there was still some Seafood Gumbo available. I should be good for some time.
Making my mark
The quote about a journal being a vehicle for “leaving a mark” may only apply to something that is written on paper. These words and images in my “journal” exist as ones and zeros in computer memory. They are ephemeral just like those sand mandalas.

There was a mishap in May 2021 during bridge construction in Peterborough, NH. A Soilmec 930 pile driver tumbled over and almost ended up in the river. The driver was not injured but the recovery operation required multiple cranes and several days of work. It was quite a spectacle. These photos were taken on May 17th of 2021.
