“Journal writing is a voyage to the interior.”

— Christina Baldwin

Monday – May 13, 2024

Mostly sunny all day. It was cool this morning but quickly warmed up into the upper 60s. Carl Toko suggested a walk to South Cemetery (Smithville) to see all the phlox in bloom. He has been busy cleaning gravestones at the cemeteries and seeing the gleaming white gravestones with the blooming phlox is quite a sight to see. Everyone will get a chance to see this next Sunday morning at the Memorial Day observance in Smithville.

I’ve been seeing a good number of birds at the feeders and today I caught a glimpse of a Rose Breasted Grosbeak. I knew they were around because Paul Willis had posted a photo on his POTD Website a few days ago. I haven’t had one at my feeder for several years. So far it has a been a good year for bird watching. Today I was lucky enough to spot a Raven at the top of a tree. It was just in reach of my telephoto lense, but I did have to crop the photo a bit.

On This Date

On this date in 2023 I was in Rockland Maine. I walked the mile long breakwater then headed to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens to visit the giant Trolls, These are the photos taken on that May 13th.
