In the ruins, there is still beauty - the poetry of destruction

The Daily Picture Theme for May 8, 2024 is #Ruin
I participate in a photography challenge on Spoutible, a social media site, A hashtagged theme is posted each day from the account of Daily Picture Theme which describes itself as “The Big Photo Album of Our Community.” The theme for today is #Ruin. This is such an appropriate theme for me and I have several photos that I believe capture the theme of past elegance replaced with ruin. First selections are from the Madam Sherri Castle. The archway had collapsed since the photos were taken in July 2017.
Over the years I have found several other “castles” that fallen into ruins along with some other buildings. Here is my collection of photos hosted on my Flickr site.
A Daily Journal (A New Feature)
We had a discussion today at the Senior Lunch about keeping a daily journal. I’m familiar with journaling because I post the 1913 diary entries of James Roger to the New Ipswich Historical Society substack each day. James writes about the weather, his chores and his correspondence with his family. Because I have been fairly disciplined about posting something every day, it does not take a great effort to add a journal entry. My website is named “My Strange Life” so it actually makes sense to write about my life. However readers may soon discover that it is not as strange as I have advertised.
Wednesday – May 8, 2024
Cloudy day, on and off rain showers, 55 degrees. Qi Gong and Tai Chi at the Temple Town Hall. We are learning a more complicated form in addition to our 24 movement. It is going to be challenging. Senior lunch at NICC (New Ipswich Congregational Church. Ollie Niemi talked about how his father kept a journal which lead to my interest in doing it on my blog. It seems appropriate that a blog named “My Strange Life” should actually have news of my life. I had my car serviced (oil change) which gave me the opportunity to start reading “The Three Body Problem” by Cixin Liu (translated by Ken Liu). I had seen the Netflix version of this which I enjoyed but the book is much richer. It has been a long time since I’ve read any science fiction. On the ride home I noticed a “Lock Him Up” sign on the side of the road. That cheered me up. Dinner was easy, just heated up some Pot Roast Stew from Mother Hubbard’s Ladle.
On This Day
A look back to May 8, 2018 with some violets and Redbud blossoms. The Redbud has not done well since the photos were taken. Storms, bittersweet vines and horrid rosa multiflora canes have dragged it down.
You would like Stonehenge I think – have you ever been there? – Regina
I would LOVE Stonehenge, but never traveled to the British Isles
