The big photo story of the day was the solar eclipse. I was tempted to travel to Vermont to be in the path of totality, but decided that it would be more comfortable to sit on the deck with my camera and a telephoto lens. 95% totality was not too shabby and I’ve avoided gridlock on the highway.

I had the idea of bringing out my radiometer during the eclipse and was pleasantly surprised to see it respond to the diminished light level. It is amazing how much energy we get from the glowing orb.

The Daily Picture Theme is #Step

I participate in a photography challenge on Spoutible, a social media site, A hashtagged theme is posted each day from the account of Daily Picture Theme which describes itself as “The Big Photo Album of Our Community.” The picture theme for April 8th is #Step. I chose this photo from Vancouver Island. It was only a few steps from the parking lot to beautifull Combers Beach. Only downside was reading about the dangers of Bears, Wolves and Cougars on the trail.

It was worth the short walk along a boardwalk to Combers Beach in Tofino, BC.

On This Day – April 8th

Besides the eclipse photos taken today, I have a number of April 8th photos taken in previous years. Enjoy.
