The sap is running in the Monadnock Region. Freezing temperatures only at night guarantee a good sap flow for the multiple sugar houses in our area. I stopped into the new market opened on Route 101 in Temple, NH owned by Ben’s Sugar House. I had a breakfast sandwich with maple cured bacon and a good cup of coffee. There is no sugaring operation on site yet, but some of the equipment is already on site, including the most impressive reverse osmosis filter I have ever seen (see photos).

The Deli is stocked with Boarshead products and there are sandwiches and soups available. I’ll be back again.

Tours

Spring comes slowly to the Monadnock Region. There are a lot of false starts and probably more snow. The sugar house tours are a treat. The warm of the steam infused with maple syrup is a good way to shake off the last of the winter blahs. There are plenty of maple flavored treats also. Ben’s Sugar house is only one among many that will be hold open houses in March. Visit one.
