December 7, 2023 (Thursday)
It was only 14 degrees this morning. Thank goodness for a heated car seat. It was just David and I for Tai Chi and Karen and I for Yoga. It is almost like having personal trainers. Later I managed to get a few steps in by taking a walk with Carl.
The majority of the day was spent waiting to have new winter tires mounted on the car. It wasn’t a moment too soon, the original tires were in terrible shape. The car was out of alignment and the tires had worn so badly that the metal belt was visible.
I now have tires with aggressive treads that look like they will really grip the road. I know they will work because they have embossed images of snow flakes (see photo).

Throwback Thursday – December 7, 2019
December 7, 2019 was a Saturday and the Green Center was open. You never know what you might see at the Green Center. Here are some of the wonderful items that I saw on that day.
Betty and Alice
I participate in a daily picture challenge on the social media site Spoutible. Everyday there is a different subject announced as a Daily Picture Theme. I select an appropriate photo from my collection to share. I have been sharing these exclusively on Improves With Age, my Substack newsletter. However since I have untaken the task of writing daily entries, I decided to introduce a daily picture theme photo to this website.
I chose this photo of my mom and her friend Alice Gooding enjoying a coke. The Coca Cola advertising slogan “it’s the pause that refreshes” originated in the late 1920s. The picture theme for today is #pause.
Albert Einstein
While I was waiting for my tires I was reading the chapter “THE ROOTS OF MORALITY : WHY ARE WE GOOD?” in Richard Dawkins book “The GOD Delusion”. I came across a quote from Albert Einstein which would be fitting way to end this post.
“Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to a divine purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: That we are here for the sake of other men —above all for those upon whose smile and well- being our own happiness depends, for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy. Many times a day, I realize how much my outer and inner life is built upon the labors of people, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received and am still receiving.” ― Albert Einstein, Living Philosophies
I feel that way too, Me & Einstein????
Einstein has a lot to teach us, I have another gem for tomorrow.
I always loved Einstein
Where did you buy your tires?
VIP, I believe they will change them back to regular tires in Spring for no charge.
