December 2, 2023 (Saturday)

You get the sense that it’s possible simply to go through life noticing things and writing them down and that this is OK, it’s worth doing. That the seemingly insignificant things that most of us spend our days noticing are really significant, have meaning, and tell us something.
Joan Didion – The Paris Review Interview (2006)

Saturday is my favorite day of the week, even during retirement when all days are Saturday. The temperature stayed in the 40s F. This was not the case four years ago when we were slammed with winter storm Ezekiel. The featured photo of the Cardinal was taken during that storm. After breakfast the first order of business was my Hip-Hop class.

I managed to correctly do a few steps this morning, but it is going to take a long time till it gets locked into muscle memory. I still can’t coordinate my arms and feet. This is definitely a cardio workout, my bottle of nitroglycerine is right next to the water bottle. Today after class I was thinking about how my Aunt Mary would have loved this. She taught tap dancing during the 1930s. Looking back I realize she moved with a lot of grace, as a dancer or Tai Chi master.

Mary loved dance, she was always encouraging her nieces and nephews to express themselves though dance and the other arts. I’m fairly certain that I was her favorite, probably because I spent my first year living with my father’s parents and Aunt Mary. Of course she made us all feel like we were the favorite but I was.

Tomorrow Will Be Kinder

Yesterday I gave a birthday greeting to my cousin Katie Adams. Today her mom gave me a present by sending me a video of Katie singing a cover of The Secret Sisters song “Tomorrow Will Be Kinder”. Do you know how some songs just grab you immediately? This is one of these songs. It is stuck in my head, a beautiful song.

Daily Picture Theme – #Bottle

I participate in a daily picture challenge on the social media site Spoutible. Everyday there is a different subject announced as a Daily Picture Theme. I select an appropriate  photo from my collection to share. I have been sharing these exclusively on Improves With Age, my Substack newsletter. However since I have untaken the task of writing daily entries, I decided to introduce a daily picture theme photo to this website.

One of the previous themes was . I have a few photos of a single bottle and many of a group of bottles. I’m bending the rules a bit with the plural interpretation.

  1. John thank you. The picture of you doing hip hop and that great song “tomorrow will be kinder” were much needed by me today. I needed to smile and have some positive energy
The rain and fog were overwhelming
I am now singing with your cousin and laughing at your great hip hop moves
    I miss my TaiChi friends
