Tuesday – Farouters Meeting

It was a cool and cloudy start today, 45 degrees F and 89% humidity. I managed to solve all the online puzzles and also caught two mice to feed to the crows. By lunch time it was nice enough for the Farouters men’s group to have lunch outside.

The Farouters

The Farouters is a men’s group that gathers twice a month for lunch and conversation. The organizing force of this group is Rick Harden (in orange shirt). It is an eclectic group with combined life experiences covering centuries. The oldest and youngest members were not in attendance. Topics run the gamut. I asked a few questions about writing journals and the consensus was that they should be burned after ones death. That might be a little hard with an electronic copy that is uploaded to the cloud. Rick came up with this witticism.

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep:
If I should die before I wake,
Throw my journal in the lake

Tom Sawyer’s raft trip

The weather was so nice Rick suggested we take a “cruise” on his raft powered by small electric motor. Four of us sat on lawn chairs on a tippy raft for a whirlwind tour of the pond. The Coast Guard would not have approved.

Gene was cool and collected. I wish I had a photo of my expression which was one of genuine concern. Note the water was breaking over the “bow”.

Dahlias

After surviving the cruise I spent the afternoon at home digging up dahlia tubers. They cannot survive a New Hampshire winter. They look healthy and will be stored in the cellar and replanted in Spring.

On This Day – Sixteen Years Ago

Today is election day. There were no elections in New Ipswich. However when I looked back through the archives for the date of November 7th I found photos of Hillary Clinton campaigning in Peterborough for the 2008 New Hampshire Presidential Primary, which she won in early 2008.
