September 11th to September 17th

I participate in a daily photo challenge on the social media site Spoutible. Every day there is a different picture theme announced on Daily Picture Theme on Spoutible. I choose one of my own photos which most closely aligns with the theme. It can be challenging. I post the results daily on my Improves with Age substack newsletter.

Monday – #model

I spent some time in Hong Kong during my Navy Service in 1970. I noticed a fashion shoot taking place on the streets and clicked this photo. The model was brave to take off her shoes. The back alleys were a bit grimy.

Model Train

I had American Flyer model trains. They were 3/16″ ‘S’ scale in size, smaller than the more popular Lionel sets. I had a circular track mounted on a piece of plywood and every year I’d asked for a new car or motorized gizmo to go with it. The transformer was useful, I used it to detonate cherry bombs underwater in the back yard, an impressive sight.

Tuesday – #prickly

I have a columnar cactus which is a night bloomer. This year (2023) it produced two blossoms which looked like ti needed a hug. Since I’ve been stabbed many times by it, including one bout that gave me cellulitis, I declined the offer.

Wednesday – #metal

In 2017 I attended an iron melt at Andres Institute of Art in Brookline, NH where participants created molds for molten iron squares. Interesting project and just the photo for a #metal theme.

Thursday – #hanging

I’ve always had a swing available when I was a kid. My dad would attach to a high branch so the arc would swing far over the ground. You could briefly fly if you jumped off which I did. I did the same for my kids although this particular rope swung over rock wall. Thankfully none of them suffered traumatic brain injury.

Friday – #path

This photo came from the analog archives and I don’t remember the date or the location. I’d guess it was in the 1970s when I was stationed in California. Looks like nice place for a walk.

Saturday – #insect

I always look forward to seeing the The hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) flying around the garden. Interesting insect.

Sunday – #stripes

At one time all of us have worn striped shirts. This photo of my son also features striped gloves.

Of course the obvious choice for stripes would be photo of the stars and stripes.
