March 5, 2017
On this day in 2017 we escaped winter for a few hours by visiting Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsworth, NH.
Bird of Paradise
Remember that novelty song by “Little” Jim Dickens called May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose? That came to mind when I actually saw the flower. It would definitely hurt.
Agapanthus “Lily of the Nile”
Many years ago I bought an Agapanthus for my birthday. It produces leaves each year but has never ever bloomed. I’ve given up, free to anyone that wants it.
Orchids
There was a very nice selection of orchids.
Vertical Planting
The highlight of my visit were the vertical plantings of moss, ferns and lichens. Imagine having a wall like this in your home.
Gift Shop
The gift shop had some fun items. I love the graphic on this bottle of seed sauce.
What is a garden without a garden gnome?
Recycled cutlery
Bodega Cat and Koi
This cat was at home in the main atrium of the Greenhouse
UFOs
Tillandsia is a genus of around 650 species of evergreen, perennial flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae, native to the forests, mountains and deserts of northern Mexico and south-eastern United States, Mesoamerica and the Caribbean to mid Argentina.
Wikipedia
These are such strange plants, I’ve tried to keep them alive at home but to no avail. This was an interesting way to present them for sale.
