No Power = Early bedtime
I made Italian Soup for dinner Friday in the Instant Pot. It had started snowing in the late afternoon and it was getting heavier. After dinner while I was working on the computer the power flickered once or twice. I grabbed a flashlight just in case. It was a wet heavy snow and I knew what was coming next. The computer is connected to UPS System (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and it was bit eerie to see the glowing screens as the rest the house was instantly plunged into darkness.
I decided not to trudge outside in the storm to start the engine and connect the power cord. It would have been more convenient if this happened in the daylight or not at all. It was 19:30 and seemed like a good time for bed. I wasn’t worried about having no heat for a few hours. The food in the fridge will keep.
The power was restored at 2:30 but it wouldn’t last. However there was time for Wordle and my Newsletter.
Wordle 546 Four Steps
I had enough time (and electricity) in the morning to post the daily newsletter for the New Ipswich Historical Society. I was also able to solve the 546th Wordle puzzle in four steps. It should have been in three but I mistakenly forgot a letter. It was getting light outside and once again the power flickered and died. The good news is that I don’t need power to make coffee. I have a hand grinder and boil water on a gas stove. After I started the generator I took a look around to look for damage.
Like walking in wet cement
The snow was incredibly wet. I would have loved it if I was a child. It packed beautifully and you could have made a snowman, fort or anything else you could imagine… if you were a child. Instead this septuagenarian trudged through the snow with his camera. It was like walking through wet cement.
The snow was terribly sticky. It clung to branches, the suet feeder and the birdhouses
The snow even stuck to bare metal racks
These racks gather a lot of comments. I “saved” them from the town landfill. They come from Tricnit Industries in New Ipswich and were discarded after it was destroyed by fire on August 5, 1978. I find they are very handy for a number of projects.
Birdwatching
I had enough energy to clear the front deck. The sun came out and it was warm enough to sit outside and watch some birds. Shortly after that the power was restored. I wonder how sore I will be tomorrow.
