PeaceWorks, New Hampshire, LLC is located in Temple, NH. It is the location of Avalon Healing Art Barn Studio and Sanctuary.

I attended a mini-tour of the Avalon Sanctuary led by founder Reverend Barbara Thorngren, M. Ed. Barbara is an education, Interspiritual Minister, Reiki master, and workshop facilitator.

A Working Homestead

Avalon is a working farm with gardens, a greenhouse, ducks, chickens and goats. I was hoping the goats would accompany us on our walk through the woods but it was a rainy day and they apparently are not fans of rain. It is a beautiful setting.

The Labyrinth

A Labyrinth has been constructed on the grounds of what used to be a horse paddock. The rain held off just long enough to allow us to walk the path.

A Groovy Yurt

The highlight of my visit was a tour of a traditional Mongolian Yurt. It was a “Groovy” experience. One can only speculate on the use of that name for the company that sells these.

The Etymology of Avalon

Avalon (/ˈævəlɒn/; Latin: Insula Avallonis, Welsh: Ynys Afallon, Ynys Afallach; Cornish: Enys Avalow; literally meaning “the isle of fruit [or apple] trees”; sometimes written Avallon or Avilion) is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend. It first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth‘s 1136 Historia Regum Britanniae (“The History of the Kings of Britain”) as the place where King Arthur‘s sword Excalibur was made and later where Arthur was taken to recover from being gravely wounded at the Battle of Camlann. Since then, the island has become a symbol of Arthurian mythology, similar to Arthur’s castle Camelot.

Avalon was associated from an early date with mystical practices and figures such as Morgan le Fay. It is often identified as the former island of Glastonbury Tor, which the later English variant of the legend made the place where King Arthur was taken to his final rest. However some traditions believe that Arthur had never really died, but would return to lead his people against their enemies. Many other alternative locations of Avalon have been claimed or proposed as well.
